Gigi Hadid – check. Kaia Gerber- check.
#itdoesntgetbetterthanthat
Raine is ‘n internasionale grimeerkunstenaar en Agentskap Direkteur by LMDA ATLELIERS wat die offisiële skoonheidsvenoot vroeër vanjaar by AFI Mode Week in Kaapstad was.
“Gavin Rajah se vertoning was in opsig self ‘n loopbaan hoogtepunt.
Van watter grimeer trends hou ‘n celebrity make up artist?
* Stink asem! Hou asseblief altyd mint of kougom by jou.
* Spraytan! Ek kan nie die reuk uithou nie. Dit maak my ongelooflik naar.
Mooi voorkoms teen minimum moeite!
Fabric masks are part of our ‘new normal’ and the impact wearing these masks have on our skin are not always pretty. Welcome Maskne!
Face masks are not going to disappear soon, we should try and understand the cause(s) of maskne and find solutions to keep our skincare on point.
Acne starts when the oil glands that are present in the skin become blocked. The accumulated gland contents become contaminated with bacteria causing infection which then spreads to the oil glands resulting in acne.
How fabric face masks affect your skin
Bacteria love a warm and moist environment, here they multiply exponentially.
The conditions that are brought on by wearing a mask for long periods of time are ideal for creating a warm environment. Anyone that wears glasses will know how annoying the fogging up of your glasses is when you wear a mask. Exhaled air, trapped by the mask, is warm and moist and creates an ideal environment for the proliferation of bacteria. Therefore, partially or blocked oil glands that may be present in the skin, now stand a far greater chance of becoming infected.
Inflammation is the enemy! The skin care world is waking up to this; in order to control inflammation and ageing and the skin diseases associated with inflammaging such as acne, we need to use less chemicals on the skin. The new approach to skin care where fewer products are used is called Skip-care skincare.
How can we prevent maskne or what are the most effective ways of treating it? Thoclor Labs, leaders in using hypochlorous acid (our own body’s Immune Molecule) as a main ingredient in all their products, shares their tips on fighting Maskne.
After you have dried your skin, spray Thoclor Labs GF2 Skin Rejuvenation onto the whole face and allow it to dry naturally. GF2 Skin Rejuvenation contains hypochlorous acid, a natural substance with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Regularly spray your mask inside and out with GF2. This will kill bacteria and viruses that may have accumulated on the mask.
Be cautious of wearing too much make-up and other skincare products under your face mask. This may only contribute to the blocking of your oil glands and heavy make-up may even become a growth medium for bacteria under hot and humid conditions, which exist inside your face mask.
Pro tip – invest in a few masks so you can rotate them as needed… and it looks cute with your outfits, of course.
Viva La Diva is an all Swedish make-up brand born in Stockholm. Their vegan friendly products are not tested on animals and that sealed the deal right there and then for me. #CRUELTYFREE
Professional South African makeup artist Sian Bianca Moss, has been working with the international brand for years. She fell in love with the quality and ethos of the family-owned brand from Stockholm and without hesitation, decided to bring it into the country. Sian did my hair and make up for a magazine shoot about two years ago and can I just add – I looked really hawt,
Viva La Diva appeals to those who dare to show off, display their personality, speak their mind and walk their own way in life – that it is the only way to be truly fabulous. Time to ‘dress up’ your home in the latest style trends
Good news for all interior lovers – Sofa Company South Africa launched a range of Danish inspired homeware across 9 categories and I was fortunate to attend the official media launch.
(Do yourself a favour and pay a visit to their showroom in Buitengracht Street. You will walk away with interior inspo for days. Rephrase: for months.)
Their new categories include:
Candles & Holders
The range is curated into stories; Quintessential, Contemporary and Refined and feature light Oak wood and natural fibres. What I love the most though is the colour selection. Think neutral tones of white and grey overlaid with pops of vibrant summer colours in blues, greens, pinks and yellows.
I work full time and also attend social events after hours while squeezing in my fitness workout, so basically I’m always in need of extra baskets around the house to put my clothing away or to ‘stylishly hide away’ my throws and blankets after Netflix & Chill evenings. Instead of putting it away in a closet, it can actually make for a beautiful focal point in a living or bedroom space. Sofa Company has the BEST basketware (starting from R399.00) in all the shapes and trendy sizes imaginable and I highly recommend taking a look.
When it comes to cushions, I believe that more is more! The scutter cushions range retails at around R399.00 and will definitely wow your guests at your next dinner party. I am also a big believer of statement rugs for adding that homey feel to any living space and Sofa Company has a wide variety to suit all style personalities.
The range is priced competitively, yes 30 something Martha that includes you too, without any compromises on the Danish levels of quality, form and function. Okay, don’t even get me started about their furniture.
Known for beautifying the striking faces of red carpet royalty such as Beyoncé, Priyanka Chopra and Kim Kardashian West, celebrity makeup artist Sir John has joined forces with W.BEAUTY to launch a first for South African retail – a limited edition cosmetics line, titled Volume 1.
No stranger to South Africa!
I’ve met Sir John at a former W.BEAUTY event in Canal Walk where he gave us a showstopper makeup masterclass which formed part of a series across the country.
He has also lent his artistic hand to various Woolworths campaigns and events, including collaborating with artists backstage at Woolworths’ Style By SA runway show at SA Fashion Week.
“Having developed a strong working relationship with Sir John over the past few years, collaborating on a bespoke product line with the makeup maestro was a natural next step,” says Head of Brand Communication for Fashion, Beauty, Home and International, Shaheda Sayed.
“The limited edition makeup range marks an important step for South African retail as it is the first time that a popular South African retailer has worked closely with a well-known international authority to produce a makeup collection that has been created to effortlessly illuminate South African women’s naturally sun kissed skin.”
W.BEAUTY’s long-standing reputation as experts in creating innovative and ethical beauty formulations, coupled with Sir John’s creativity and deep understanding of makeup artistry, makes for a game-changing collaboration.
“It’s been an absolute dream working on this collaboration with the W.BEAUTY team. It has been been inspiring and life changing.
Although he serves as the Creative Director and Consultant for various beauty houses, Volume 1 will be the makeup master’s very first signature makeup range for South Africa, and thus required him to take a hands-on approach.
“I was involved from beginning to end. From the very first product sketches, to the name, the packaging, the symbolism and the product intrinsics. It was very important to me that Volume 1 reflects who I am as an artist, and that it delivers the quality associated with the W.BEAUTY brand,” explains Sir John.
The cruelty-free and vegan-friendly curated collection will be W.BEAUTY’s first international product collaboration, and will consist of a highlighter stick, and an eyeshadow palette created to give any beauty lover the perfect red carpet eye. A rich and creamy, hydrating lipstick, bold liquid eyeshadows, metallic nail lacquers, and a shimmering highlighter compact completes what will be this season’s most talked about makeup line.
Volume 1, a limited edition makeup collection by W.BEAUTY and Sir John, will be sold exclusively at selected Woolworths stores and can also be purchased on the Woolworths website and app iDivisions at Woolworths.

Who else is guilty of spending too much time scrolling through their Instagram feeds before bedtime?
Did you know that constant exposure to screens, not enough sleep and lack of natural light’s really bad for you in so many ways? Our millennial lifestyle can turn our biorhythms upside down and where does it show first – you guessed correct, on our face! Think early wrinkles, dull complexion and super dry skin. #FilterNeeded
I was introduced to PAYOT‘s new chrono-active smoothing range at their latest media launch, BLU TECHNI LISS.
With their head quarters based in Paris, it is no surprise what the Payot brand is synonym with ultimate luxury. With their iconic female shaped jars combiner with science and herbal expertise, it’s worth investing in yourself and your ski.
The iconic brand’s new range restores balance to your skin and provides the necessary protection during the day and rejuvenates during night.
TWO OF MY FAVOURITES FROM THE NEW BLU TECHNI LISS RANGE
1 Your every ‘nighter’
The Chrono Plumping Serum (R736 for 30ml) in the brand’s iconic shape of a woman’s body, is a fresh and melt-in gel with a slightly pink texture that is instantly absorbed into the skin for an immediate plumping effect! 21 volunteers experienced the following results over a period of 28 days:
77% WRINKLES AND FINE LINES ARE SMOOTHED
68% THE SKIN APPEARS YOUNGER 68%
81 % THE SKIN IS MORE SUPPLE 81%
2 The ‘weekend BAE’ to take with you.
With its 100% natural and recyclable fabric mask included, the Blue Techni Liss Weekend Chrono-Renewing Peel Mask (R139 for 25g) with its high concentration of glycolic acid smoothes wrinkles and give your skin texture an instant boost. According to Payot study, users experience 11.5% less wrinkels after the first application.

Okay, so we already know that Bio-Oil® is the world’s leading scar and stretch mark product, but they just added another title to the beloved brand which I found out at the Bio Oil Dry Skin launch held in Cape Town.
What makes it different?
Normally dry skin products like your typical lotions and body butters are made primarily from water which tends to evaporates when coming into contact with your skin… you know… that weird and uncomfortable feeling…
Because Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is made from oil, it has that warm and comfy feeling on application.
AND IT’S PINK
The pinkish gel-like texture is non-sticky and provides instant dry relief. You can apply the product all over your body and I personally like to apply it on my legs for that healthy glow when I go out.
But what impressed me most – I applied my Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel religiously after every tanning session over the summer holidays and did not get sunburn once. Of course I also applied a very high SPF beforehand, but I believe that the ingredients of the products after my tanning played a major role in preventing any further damage.
Did you know that Bio-Oil sells a bottle every two seconds worldwide?
POTENT AND PRETTY
The product contains 50% of the original Bio-Oil formula and eliminate extra water ingredients. It’s not cold like most other lotions when applying to your body like I’ve mentioned before, because a lot of products contain an overload of water.
The oil-based gel formulation is 100% active and has been clinically proven to target and treat dry skin conditions.
After thought >> > So maybe I was a little upset abut the fact that my husband completely emptied out my 200ml bottle, but hey, it shows you this product is BOMB!
Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is available at pharmacies and selected retail outlets nationwide in 50ml (R59.99), 100ml (R109.99) and 200ml (R184.99). I like to carry the 50ml in my handbag for a quick application when needed. It also doubles up as a lip balm – winning!
A massage can work magic for your body and your soul and at Meraki Aesthetics, you will understand why.
This new modern and city chic salon is based in the upmarket Battery Park, close to the V&A Waterfront. Once you’ve parked your car, you’re surrounded with niche shops and luxury views of the Mother City from where you make your way to Meraki Aesthetics.
I picture myself on a weekend grabbing brunch with the girls indulging in a mani and pedi afterwards at Meraki Aestethics ending up talking a mandatory spa selfie with the modern green interior design in the background.
GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK
Meraki is the beautiful end product of two #bossbabes with a holistic wellness approach. Leigh and Nadine maintain a high-level of hygiene and beauty standards by implementing the following eco-friendly aprroaches:
* Serving water in glass with a strictly no plastic bottle policy.
* Email/ SMS facility to avoid unnecessary printing.
* Separating all waste generated in house for recycling.
“Meraki Aesthetics is a salon with a difference, not only offering clients a modern and private space to disconnect, relax and rejuvenate but also focusing on providing a green practice.”
HOT, HOTTER, HOT STONE MASSAGE
I opted for a 60 minute Hot Stone Therapy Massage (R690) however Meraki Aesthetics offers a wide range of treatments including massages, facials. microblading, waxing and more.
Hot Stone Massages are highly recommended for muscle pain release, reducing your stress levels and for an overall improved circulation – just check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or suffering from any illness.
My therapist made me feel at ease and started the session by applying calming oil over my body. The heat of the stones instant relaxed all my muscles. My ‘medium pressure’ massage felt a bit intense at one stage that I asked my spa therapist to please lighten the pressure. It’s super important to tell you therapist at any point if you are experience any discomfort. Luckily for me, I had an amazing therapist who took great care of giving me the best experience.
(I slept like a baby and woke up the next morning ready to run a 10km race!)
Besides all their massage options to choose from, Meraki Aesthetics is also extremely generous with their gelish pricing and comes highly recommended from a few influencers who attended the official launch event.
You can book your appointment online on Meraki’s website or phone them directly at 071 564 4808. Thank you Meraki for having me – see you soon for my next treatment.
