Why Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is always in my handbag

“Ain’t no lie baby, bye bye dry skin!”

Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is the new  (and affordable) way to treat dry skin.

Okay, so we already know that Bio-Oil® is the world’s leading scar and stretch mark product, but they just added another title to the beloved brand which I found out at the Bio Oil Dry Skin launch held in Cape Town.

What makes it different?

Normally dry skin products like your typical lotions and body butters are made primarily from water which tends to  evaporates when coming into contact with your skin… you know… that weird and uncomfortable feeling…

Because Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is made from oil, it has that warm and comfy feeling on application.

AND IT’S PINK

The pinkish gel-like texture is non-sticky and provides instant dry relief. You can apply the product all over your body and I personally like to apply it on my legs for that healthy glow when I go out.

But what impressed me most  – I applied my Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel religiously after every tanning session over the summer holidays and did not get sunburn once. Of course I also applied a very high SPF beforehand, but I believe that the ingredients of the products after my tanning played a major role in preventing any further damage.

When your friends ask you the secret to your healthy skin…

Did you know that Bio-Oil sells a bottle every two seconds worldwide?

POTENT AND PRETTY

The product contains 50% of the original Bio-Oil formula and eliminate extra water ingredients. It’s not cold like most other lotions when applying to your body like I’ve mentioned before, because a lot of products contain an overload of water.

The oil-based gel formulation is 100% active and has been clinically proven to target and treat dry skin conditions.

After thought >> > So maybe I was a little upset abut the fact that my husband completely emptied out my 200ml bottle, but hey, it shows you this product is BOMB!

I have Keratosis Pilaris, but just look at the level of smoothness since I started using the Dry Skin Gel.

Bio-Oil® Dry Skin Gel is available at pharmacies and selected retail outlets nationwide in 50ml (R59.99), 100ml (R109.99) and 200ml (R184.99). I like to carry the 50ml in my handbag for a quick application when needed. It also doubles up as a lip balm – winning!

Are you the friend or the ship?

I don’t understand why friends still feel the need to compete with friends. Why do you have to be better, richer and skinnier? This is not the Olympics and you will definitely not be handed a golden medal if that’s your goal.

This year taught me more about friendship – are you the ‘friend’ or are you the ‘ship’ that sails away when things get tough? Do you check in with your girl when she’s going through a tough time even though it looks like she’s got everything together? Newsflash – she doesn’t.

So, it’s not a FBI secret that I got really sick this year and ended up in hospital in September. I got booked off for another three months and still have to take a little handful of medication to get better which I don’t like, because weight gain and stuff…

BUT I’ve realised over the last few months that it really doesn’t matter what you weigh or what you wear… health always come first and although I don’t feel 100% comfortable in my body just yet, I’ve never been healthier. Some days are still tough and I’m not embarrassed to admit that, but let’s be real… no one likes to share their struggles on Instagram so in general people think I’m living my best life right now. Debatable.

Anyways, while being at my weakest I’ve learned to open up more towards my closest friends and the response was the opposite I thought I would receive.

Support, support, support! I thought that they would see me as ‘failure’ in their eyes, but it was literally the opposite. Never have I received so many messages from friends, ex-colleagues and strangers on social media saying that they are proud of me for being just a ‘real person’ speaking about ‘very real issues’.

Why shouldn’t it be okay to not be okay? I feel that there’s a huge lack of mental health support on social media and that we NEED more influencers/ real people speaking up about it.

Unfortunately one or two people I really care(d) about didn’t really care to check in with me, but that’s okay too, because the only ship I will be sailing in 2019 is a 5-star yacht and it will be by invite only.

Always, Anne

PS. I did a impromptu shoot with one of my best friends, Listelle, recently at one of my favourite local hangout spots in Sea Point -Strolla.  Thank you Listellie for just being you, just having a way to always make me laugh and leaving my heart a little warmer.

Runway Report: Be seen in Emerald Green

Emerald green is one of the most elegant colours to wear, but it doesn’t mean you can’t add an edgy twist to make your outfit POP!

What I love most about this colour is the fact that anyone can pull it off as it suits every skin tone.

Accessorise with rose gold jewelry or be fashion forward and add colour blocking pieces or prints like snakeskin to look like the next big Instagram influencer.

If you are aiming for a more classic look, wear a crisp white collar shirt paired with emerald green high-waisted pants – a popular choice to stand out in the workplace.

Hollywood A-listers like Emma Stone, Lupita N’yonga and Blake Lively have all been spotted rocking this luxury shade on the red carpet and local retailers are introducing more emerald green garments in their window displays for winter season.

A lot of African designers also played with this rich and royal colour at the recent Cape Town Fashion Week.

Be a ballerina bae with MRP

All that ballet jazz

I used to do ballet for 5 years when I was younger and I’ll never forget how upset I was when our ballet teacher moved out of town.

Just because I didn’t turn out to be a prima ballerina, doesn’t mean I can’t still look like one.

Meet MRP‘s new dance-inspired PROJECT collection.

“In this limited edition range, mixed fabrics and a muted palette take centre stage, while mesmerising silhouettes capture movement.”

It was hard to choose (because I’m such a ballet obsessed snob) but here is my top 5 picks from the #MRPXPROJECT.

Boss babes have off days too

Never be afraid to speak up if you are not okay.

Lately I have been working hard on chasing my goals – just a pity you don’t burn calories while at it….

Oh well, I managed to tick all of them off and I am beyond ready for the next exciting chapter on this roller coaster ride even though I won’t be able to spill all the beans just yet.

Always Anne Strolla Cape Town

BUT

For a few months I wanted to give up… give up on the career I have chosen when I was only five years old and just move to a small town with a stress-free job working from 9-5 making someone else rich. Overall I just wanted to give up on life for so many personal reasons (yes, boss babes have off days too!)

Annette de Wet Woolworths

The turning point was when I caught myself sitting on the pavement in Strand Street (Cape Town CBD) two weeks ago with no ambition left, no fight inside me and 100% not in the mood for living.

I remember phoning my mom and telling her I’m done. With fashion. With friends. With life.

I don’t know how she did it, but after an one hour or three of mommy talk she managed (from 1000 km away) to get my bum on the bus and making some important healthy appointments I won’t bore you with. It came as no surprise that I was suffering from some medical issues which resulted in me not having the usual go-getter attitude or energy to run a 10km looking like I woke up like this.

WHAT’S YOUR POINT, ANNE? (you might ask)

No matter what you are going through in life, it only takes the first step to get better. Just make the call, send that email, do that gym class, make a medical appointment, join a support group, opt for the fruit salad instead of the cheesecake – only one step to a happier and healthier you!

Since I’ve made a few changes, life’s been good – gosh, I even dropped 2 kilograms!

Annette de Wet Cape Town Stylist

Whatever you’re going through in life right now, you are not alone and please don’t ever be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Don’t suffer in silence. That’s just not okay.

If you want to talk to someone, drop me an email any hour of the day.

You got this, boo!

10 things I hate about Instagram Husband

couple goals annette de wet always anne

You had met at coffee!

Instagram hubby and I have been going strong since 2011, so obviously I’m NOT going to bake him chocolate cookies everyday. We can annoy the living day light out of each other and a lot of times he’ll just roll his eyes for the things that come out my mouth. #DOnotASK

Anyway, I hate all these corny posts about true love and those your-guy-are-hotter-than-my-guy vibes… so let me tell you what I dislike about my Insta Hubby.

always anne cape town blogger

1 I hate it when he tells me I don’t look fat when I honestly swear-to-the-rooftop knows I have a mufftin top! Let’s just be real right now.

2 I hate it when I want to buy a whole packet of Zoo Cookies and he’s like: ‘baby, are you suuuuure?’

FOLLOW @ANNENE_PHOTO ON INSTAGRAM

3 I hate the fact that he does not understand that my daily cappuccino fix is a need, not a luxury.

4 I hate it when he reminds me to pick up my seven outfits from the bedroom floor. We live in an one-bedroom-apartment, how am I suppose to be a Fashion Editor with NO closet space!?

5 I absolutely hate it when Instagram Husband does not want to take Instagram photos for me. You are Instagram Husband – what don’t you understand about that part?

6 I hate the fact that Instagram Husband is not a morning person. No sunrise hikes, no early road tripping to the West Coast. Nothing! Nallah!

always anne fashion blog coffee shirt

7 I hate it when he’s more excited to greet the cat.

8 I hate the fact that Instagram Husband does not eat bacon. Who doesn’t eat bacon? WTF am I suppose to eat with my toast – anchovy and fish paste?

9 I hate it when Instagram Husband use my salon product shampoos. Unless you’re growing a man  bun – do not touch my stuff!

annette de wet fashion blogger

10 But mostly, I hate the fact that everybody have this idea that Instagram hubby is this perfect little creature, but then again, he is that perfect. Well, most of the time anyway.

Oh, who am I kidding? After 6 years I am still obsessed with this guy. I get butterflies when we kiss. My heart rate jumps to 160 when he puts on his red PUMA bomber jacket and he gets the foaming part just right on my morning coffee.

Love you babe.

12 Sex & the City quotes I love

Closet like Carrie and Money like Big!

Like Carrie Bradshaw I live, eat and breath fashion and both of us can’t wear white without spilling…

Fortunately, like Carrie, I also found my Mr. Big and our love is (sorry for the pun) BIG!

I collaborated with 3 bloggers and we did a city themed fashion shoot captured by Roam Free Photography. This has been such an exciting shoot as I got to experience 3 powerful women showing their inner confidence and also their support for other inspiring women with goals and dreams.

ENJOY!

Always, Anne
